GDPR and Data Protection: The Lewes Astronomical Society (LAS) manages the personal information about our members and subscribers in compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (2018). This means that we are careful to take the necessary steps to protect the privacy and personal information of LAS members and subscribers, ensuring that their data is collected, stored, and processed in a lawful and secure manner. Our website uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) that utilises Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt and protect data during transmission for enhanced security and safety.

Mailchimp as the Email Service Provider: We use Mailchimp, a popular email marketing service, for sending electronic mailshots to our subscribers. New members are automatically added to the LAS mailing list so that they receive all relevant communications from the outset of their membership. Mailchimp is compliant with GDPR and provides robust security measures to safeguard the personal information of subscribers. This includes encryption, access controls, and other data protection protocols that help prevent unauthorised access, data breaches, or misuse of the information.

Consent to Data Collection and Use: By becoming a member of the LAS or otherwise subscribing to our mailing list, individuals consent to the collection, storage, and use of by the LAS of their email address and any other information they provide. Members' email addresses and other personal data will not be shared with any persons other than the elected LAS committee members for the purpose of managing the society.

Purpose of Data Use: The reason for collecting email addresses and other provided information is to allow the LAS as an organisation to communicate effectively with its members and supporters. This may include sending newsletters, updates, event invitations, cancellations or other relevant information relating to the LAS and its activities by email, post or telephone.

Unsubscribing from the LAS Mailing List: We include an unsubscribe link in the footer of our mailshots, allowing individuals to easily opt-out of receiving further mailshots. This ensures that individuals retain control over their subscriptions and can stop receiving LAS mailshots if they no longer wish to do so. Non-members who unsubscribe from our mailing list will not receive any further emails from the LAS and their contact details will be deleted from our mailing system.

LAS Members: Members can opt-out of the LAS mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of our mailshots. Opted-out members will no longer receive our regular mailshots. However, the LAS may still contact opted-out members from time to time with important communications, updates specific to their membership status, or any other essential information pertinent to their involvement in the LAS.

Sharing of Data with Third Parties: The LAS will never share or sell any personal information about its members, subscribers and supporters with any other parties unless compelled to do so by law.
