Cookies Policy
About Cookies: Cookies are small text files that are placed on a device by a web browser. We only use essential cookies on our website.
Mailchimp Cookies: We use Mailchimp for sending electronic mailshots to our subscribers, including our members. If you have enabled cookies in your web browser, Mailchimp may write a cookie on your device when you open a mailshot or click on a link in a mailshot from us. This enables us to track email campaigns so that we can better understand how subscribers interact with our mailshots. This information can help us optimise our mailshots and improve the experience for subscribers to our mailshots.
Session Cookies: We use session variables to pass information between various pages on our website in order to improve the user experience. If you have enabled cookies in your web browser, we may write a temporary cookie on your device to track and utilise these session variables.
Consent for Cookies: By using the LAS website, becoming a member of the LAS or otherwise subscribing to the LAS mailing list, you consent to our use of essential cookies.
Privacy Policy
GDPR and Data Protection: The Lewes Astronomical Society (LAS) manages members' and subscribers' personal information in accordance with the Data Protection Act (1998) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (2018). We take appropriate steps to ensure personal data is collected, stored and processed lawfully and securely. Our website uses Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) with Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt data during transmission.
Mailchimp as the Email Service Provider: LAS uses Mailchimp to send electronic mailshots to subscribers. New members are automatically added to the LAS mailing list so they receive relevant communications from the start of their membership. Mailchimp is GDPR-compliant and uses security measures including encryption and access controls to protect subscriber information from unauthorised access, breaches or misuse.
Consent to Data Collection and Use: By becoming an LAS member or subscribing to our mailing list, individuals consent to LAS collecting, storing and using their email address and other information they provide. Personal data is used only for the purposes of managing and communicating on behalf of the society and is not shared with anyone other than LAS committee members, except where required by law.
Purpose of Data Use: We collect contact information so LAS can communicate effectively with members and supporters. This may include newsletters, news updates, event invitations, cancellation notices and other information relating to LAS and its activities, by email, post or telephone.
Unsubscribing from the LAS Mailing List: Every mailshot includes an unsubscribe link, allowing individuals to opt out at any time.
- Non-members: Anyone who unsubscribes will receive no further emails from LAS, and their contact details will be deleted from our database.
- Members: Members may unsubscribe from regular mailshots at any time. However, LAS may still contact opted-out members with important communications, updates relating to their membership, or other information relevant to their membership of LAS.
Sharing of Data with Third Parties: LAS will never sell or share personal information about its members, subscribers or supporters with third parties unless required to do so by law.
